A bonus anecdote: When we were looking at the prairie schooner display near Scotts Bluff National Monument, a guy in another group of tourists who was walking back from there quipped: "We just came back from Oregon. Too many crazy people there."
This good. I actually found myself paying more attention to the details of your trip rather than your review (no offense intended. It was interesting) I always wanted to do this trip. Iād like to take it all the way to Oregon City. Thank you!
This was a bit of an experiment, combining what could probably be two articles into one. The travelogue doesn't quite fit into the theme of my Substack, so commenting on the Nissan ADAS system gave me a hook. š
When thinking about where to go next, I realized that we'd never visited Kansas or Nebraska, which are sometimes derided as "flyover country." Following the route of the historic trails provided a good reason for doing so, and made the experience of the trip as important as the destinations.
We're in the early days of driver-assist systems, and we're going to see a lot of user interfaces out there. Eventually someone will get that part right, and they will all converge on a common set of switch actions and responses. That will last until the 'good idea fairy' bleses us with some completely different thing that will get people hurt because it violated their expectations.

We might have gone the whole way to Oregon if we'd had enough time, but we essentially ended up taking the "Mormon Trail."
Love this artcle and the detail.I wish we had time to make all of these stops, will put it on the bucket list.

Keep Microsft away from driver assistance!
Enjoyable narrative. Nice trip
Well, left a comment and went to edit it and somehow hid it. š
